Do I have to change anything around my fireplace if I put a stove/insert into it?
When you install a wood burning insert or stove into your fireplace your fireplace becomes a major heat source. That heat will naturally rise up and flow forward, so it is critical to be sure that the heat will not affect any combustible materials around the unit.
Every insert/stove has been thoroughly tested to determine how hot the immediate area becomes. It is extremely important that you follow manufacturer's clearances for the unit that you are installing.
It is not uncommon to have to shield a wood mantle above a stove or insert. You may also have to extend out your hearth for spark and thermal protection.
The experts at Nordic consider safety first and will help you plan and install your insert or stove safely.
