It is possible to make your wood fireplace more efficient by installing a wood burning stove or wood burning insert.
A stove or insert can be installed into a masonry built fireplace. It is important to properly size the unit for your fireplace and the space that it will heat. Wood burning inserts and stoves provide 6-8 times more heat than your open wood fireplace provides. It is also very important to look the area around your fireplace (mantle above and hearth out in front) to check to see if any modifications need to be made for a safe installation.
