Inserts
A gas insert is a great way to turn your existing masonry fireplace into a zone heater. An open fireplace that burns wood or gas is up to 15% efficient. With a direct-vent gas insert installed into the same fireplace the efficiency is increased to 70% to 80%!
The chimney vent consists of two 3 pipes that run from the insert to the top of your chimney. Fresh air comes in to feed the unit through one pipe, while the second pipe carries the exhaust to the outside. You do not use or lose any room air to feed the fire and there is no exhaust coming into the home.
All direct vent gas inserts have a fixed piece of glass in front of the fire in order for them to function and provide additional radiant heat. Blowers come standard on all units to help move the heated air out into your room. In the case of a power outage, or if you choose to not run the blower, the insert will still supply you with plenty of warmth.
